Ketogenic diet is a simple method of eating certain foods and certain combinations that cause the body to run on an alternative fuel source called ketones. When you’re on fat burning, the body makes ketones which is a much healthier fuel source, less waste, more efficient and more energy. An average person has roughly over 90 to a 100,000 calories of stored fat versus that same person only has about 1,700 calories of stored sugar.

The real big advantage of ketogenic diet versus other diets is that the hunger and cravings goes away making it very easy to do long term. If we compare the ketogenic diet to a typical diet which is either low calorie or low fat, these two diets are usually always higher carbohydrate. It is the carbohydrates that actually prevent fat burning.

Lowering your carbohydrate into between 20 and 50 grams is what basically makes people go into ketosis and the lower the carbohydrates the more you get into ketosis. And if you keep you carbs low, there is no danger on consuming more fats. Going into ketosis is simply shifting your fuel source from the sugar to the fat that takes three days.

Ketogenic Diet versus Other Diets
You are going to lose water weight for about 1 to 2 weeks. The reason why a person went plateaued within after two weeks is because you’ve never got into the fat burning. There is a big difference with weight loss between losing water and losing actual fat. Exercise only contributes to only 15% of your results.

Health Benefits of Healthy Ketogenic Diet Plan:
• Burn actual fat
• No hunger and cravings
• Increase energy
• Increase cognitive function
• Less inflammation
• Less acne

Healthy ketosis is doing this low carb plan with very healthy and nutrient-dense foods. The whole purpose of getting into ketosis and running into an alternative fuel source is to drop and normalize your insulin levels. Nearly 80% of the population has a problem with insulin and they have a condition called insulin resistance.

Custom Keto Diet

  1. There are some inaccuracies here. First, this is a lot of theory, yes you can run on ketones but you only go up and down on carbs when you eat sugars, NOT complex carbs like rice, steel cut oats, buckwheat, wheat, etc.
Dr. Berg is a relatively young man, he doesn't know the long term effects of his diet. We do know that high protein diets do stress organs. Man has been living on carbs for millenniums and the vegetarian diet has been around and more importantly tested for hundreds of years if not longer, the keto diet hasn't.
You don't gain weight on a carb diet if you eat complex carbs. I'm 75 years old, have been a vegetarian for 50 years. My weight is the same as was in high school so there is clearly some questions about this theories validity.
Do the keto wrong and all kinds of problems arise especially over a long time like decades. Let's see who's right, Dr Berg didn't make it to 75 yet and I'm in perfect health. Losing weight is not an indicator of a good diet or good health! If you're gaining weight then several factors can be the problem, again, my weight is very, very stable. My yearly check up MD even commented on it.
Let's understand theories are not scientific absolutes. A lot of people have trouble with wheat because of the additives. It's the pesticides and herbicides that have made peanut butter a big problem, we grew up on it.
I live basically on carbs and veggies and I haven't eaten meat in 50 years. I'm still doing higher math and electronic engineering everyday living on carbs and walking over 2 mile a day. Societies have lived on wheat, corn and rice for thousands of years and now we find that our predecessors also lived on lots of veggies.
The planet can not sustain a high meat diet, it never could. Look at low land gorillas, their diet in mainly vegetables, not a keto diet. Vegetarianism is not a diet, keto is and it's listed as one of the most harmful diets you can undertake.
Read Esselston's work on high fat diets, he's proven clinically that a vegetarian diet does unclog arteries, his research covers the world and different cultures – he's a vegetarian. Get different views, when you hear one perspective it's hard to make good choices especially when you have little clinical nutritional knowledge.

  2. How can we be shor that we have toxiq alement in our body befor start kito or autophagy , and it'is possible to do autohagy if we skiny . Not too skiny a midium

  3. I am 70, been on this diet a while. I had a fat belly and could not go upstairs or walk far without getting out of breath. I wondered if I was bordering on diabetes, or assumed this was joys of getting older. I went on Keto 3 months ago, and now fit into old jeans, lost over 3 stone. I can walk for miles, never out of breath. Friends tell me I look great. This works 100 percent if you do the healthy Keto, trust me. Thanks so much Dr Berg. I am now back to voice acting and lots more energy. Its true, we are what we eat..:) Edit: I now want to push this in UK. It can help old folks so much.

  4. Can any one tell me why high carb diet Docktors our so slim how come the guy who lived on potatoes lost loads of weight why is keto the worst diet according to experts so confusing I tried keto I felt awful miserable angry

  5. I love your videos. Extremely informative. My blood work has dramatically improved more form this than from medication. I wish this was taught at school. I wish MDs talked about this. This is true healing. Thanks so much!

  6. I tried this for two days and was so tired on the second day – it was very difficult to move. Is this to expected? Is it just a transition Period?

  7. I have been trying to do this keto diet for about 6 weeks. I lost some weight, but I suspect I am not eating enough fat; I am too fatigued to do my exercise and I have cravings all the time. I cannot afford avocados or salmon. Any food suggestions for the "fat" portion? I downloaded the Ketosis Acceptable Foods List and it doesn't have foods listed under"fat", just avacados, cheese, oils & butter. What can I eat for the fat? Thank you.

  8. Dr. Berg,
Unfortunately and due to medical reasons since birth I can only eat 11 of your approved carbohydrates without getting really sick.
How about resistant starch? Is that an option? Please advise
